The role of the media is a two-prong one: 1) publicizing the work that CVC does and
(2) respecting the rights of victims of crime and violence.
Good press is critical in getting the word out to the community about our services and programs. The electronic and print media assist us by running announcements of agency events and notices of upcoming workshops and support groups, as well as covering CVC events and doing special features about our work in the community.
In the early ‘80s, CVC staff worked with media representatives to develop a policy that would guarantee confidentiality to crime victims, when reporting information to the community about a crime or coverage of a legal proceeding. Media contacts also understand that designated CVC spokespersons are unable to comment on specific cases.
