Third Annual CVC BBQ 911 CVC Press Release

WEST CHESTER, PA (September 17, 2021) – Eleven teams of Chester County first responders came together on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to battle it out in a BBQ-style competition hosted by The Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc.  The event, only in its third year, sponsored by Goldberg, Goldberg & Maloney and Bio-One of Chester County, sold out in July and drew over 250 attendees on Saturday, September 11th at the VFW Post 109 in West Chester.   

The event took place on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 and began with a remembrance of those lost that day.  The memorial included the Honor Guard from West Goshen Township Police Department, the Chester County Emerald Society and remarks from West Goshen Police Department Chief Michael Carroll.  Said Chief Carroll of the day and the event, “It’s hard to explain what CVC means to victims until you experience it firsthand.  Helping victims is the goal of every first responder and is the purpose of The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County.  CVC is an integral part of the pursuit of justice for victims and they need our support.  This year’s Cook-Off was especially significant given that it was the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.  The event began with remembrance and honoring all of the victims of September 11th and continued with the type of unity and support that our country exhibited in response to the attacks.  We should Never Forget either of these.” 

Teams showcased their best BBQ in the categories of pulled pork, chicken, ribs, wings, and a specialty item. Winners in each category also took home a customized trophy and more importantly, bragging rights.  Weber’s Backyard BBQ (Lower Merion Fire Department) took home the top trophy for the day as the Grand Champion, and Road Dawgs (Pennsylvania State Police) won the coveted People’s Choice Award more than likely for their BBQ, mac and cheese and bacon covered Oreos.  Judges for the event included Police and Fire Chiefs from around the County.

The host and beneficiary of the event was The Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc. For the third year, it was spearheaded by Detective Sergeant Dave Maurer, a member of CVC’s Board of Directors and the West Goshen Police Department.

Attendees of the event paid just $20 to sample food from all the competing teams, enjoyed live music by Kevin Windstein, a display of local fire trucks and equipment, and participated in raffles for a chance to win BBQ-themed prizes. 

The event was presented by CVC Premier Community Partner Goldberg, Goldberg & Maloney and Event Sponsor Bio-One of Chester County.  It was also supported by CVC Community Partners Bentley Systems, Brandywine Valley HVAC, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, MacElree Harvey, Miller’s Insurance, FOP Lodge 11, Malvern Bank National Association, Janoski Law and the Law Office of Stephanie Morris.  It was sponsored by Foresight Technologies, Barbacane Thornton & Co., Divorce Wealth Strategies, Krapf Buses, Rothwell Document Solutions, WSFS, Kohler Law Offices, LLC, Pettine Law Offices, LLC, Allstate – Teri Smith Agency and The Riley Company.
